DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
ā
-
You've always dreamed of wearing the tutus and dancing on stage but life took over and you've never set foot in a ballet class so at this point... it seems way too late to start now
ā
-
You've taken some adult ballet in classes but constantly still feel insecure about most of what you're doing (they either don't take you seriously at all or seem angry with you for not picking it up right away)
āāāā
-
You've been singled out or shamed by a teacher for your weight, your age, your lack of training or some other ridiculous reason that left you feeling embarrassed and scared to go back
āā
-
You feel like everyone around you seems more naturally talented, confident and "born for this" so how could you ever measure up?
ā
-
You can't watch Center Stage without doing the that-should've-been-me sigh
Introducing...
Adult Ballet Academy
This 5 week workshop series for adult ballet beginners will help skyrocket your dancing success by giving you the step-by-step guide that random drop in classes simply can't.
Come learn from some of New York's warmest teachers in a gorgeous, sunny studio overlooking Manhattan's skyline.
ā
In this workshop you will:
ā
-
learn the common pitfalls that stop most adult beginners in their tracks and how to avoid them
āā
-
learn the ballet foundations FROM SCRATCH (we never say things like "you should already know this by now" and asking questions is always encouraged)
āā
-
discover the little details that help your dancing stand out, but often aren't addressed in larger classes
āā
-
stop worrying about why your arms feel like limp noodles, your fingers look scary, and your turn out is turned in
āā
-
learn common mistakes that adult beginners make about turn out, flexibility & more to avoid unnecessary injuries down the road & dance for years to come
āā
-
join New York's incredibly warm & welcoming adult ballet club & leave with new likeminded friends
ā
-
walk into future ballet classes with confidence instead of imposter syndrome

What is ABA?
No, it's not your favorite Swedish pop supergroup (though we are superfans)
ā
No, it's not the American Bar Association (though we do spend plenty of time at the barre)
ā
ABA, or Adult Ballet Academy, is the ballet school you should've attended as a kid but never could.
ā
It's a ballet gatekeeper's worst nightmare.
ā
It's the late bloomer's roadmap to a confident ballet journey.

HOW DO I KNOW IF THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR ME?
Adult Ballet Academy is NOT for you if:
-
you're an advanced ballet dancer, this will probably be too slow paced for you!
-
you're looking for a beginner pointe workshop, we will ONLY be dancing on soft shoes!
āā
-
you don't want to film yourself and feel uncomfortable with others filming themselves, we'll be documenting our journeys and making memories! It's all part of the fun :)
āā
-
you're a ballet elitist who believes in shaming others, this is a good vibes only kind of space!
Adult Ballet Academy is PERFECT for you if:
-
you're starting ballet "late" and looking for a space that takes you seriously while also making you feel welcomed and encouraged, they either don't teach me at all or make me feel stupid for not getting it right way...
āā
-
you've never taken a ballet class before and feel shy or overwhelmed, where do I begin?!
-
you've taken drop in classes for a year or two but still feel confused about so many things, why do I always feel confused?
āā
-
you're looking to build a kind, welcoming and supportive ballet community, no one really gets why I'm doing this...
ā
-
you love the thought of dancing in a place like New York City but really intimidated by the competitive nature here, what if I stick out like a sore thumb?

FAQs
Do I have to come for the entire semester or can I sign up for individual workshops? While we do recommend coming for all classes to get the best experience, we understand you may not be able to. You're more than welcome to sign up for the specific workshops that best suit your needs.
Will the choreography be hard? No! Any choreography we learn will be beginner friendly and draw upon the basic foundations you've learned all weekend.
Will I have to perform or dance solo?
No! There will be no formal performance in this specific workshop. Just fun learning opportunities, always in a group setting with other fellow beginners, and always in a shame-free environment.
Will there be breaks between classes?
Yes, there will be chances for you to rest, get a bite to eat, mingle with new friends and ask questions you may have between learning sessions.
Is there a dress code? We recommend black leotard and pink tights if you'd like to feel like the classic ballerina you always wanted to be! But you're more than welcome to wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable. :)
ā
Do I have to wear those fancy shoes?
No! This is NOT a pointe class. Soft shoes like these are highly recommended. But you can also come barefoot or in socks.
ā
Will I be allowed to film myself?
Yes! You're welcome to film your progress during classes if you so choose. And if you plan to share, please tag your fellow teachers so we can show some love!
